March - Grace

You Deserve Some Grace This Month

Life is messy. We stumble, we fall and we get it wrong sometimes - that’s what makes us human. It’s important to allow grace into your heart and acknowledge the things that make us human don’t make us less than.

Take a moment and think: When you make a mistake, what past mistake are you constantly reminded of? What past mistake do you still fault yourself for?

Mine? Let’s just say I will never press the flight attendant call button unless in dire need. 11 year-old me didn’t understand that.

I used to constantly think about the various mistakes I made at my first job post-college and the burden I placed on myself for feeling like an inconvenience to my team. It took me a long time to let go of that guilt and see those moments for what they truly were: learning opportunities (such a cliche I know but notice how most cliches stand true). I had never been in this role before, or any role for that matter, so I didn’t know any different. The important part is that I learned from the mistakes and put in my best effort to avoid a repeat performance.

Oftentimes, we hold ourselves to the highest standards when it comes to our mistakes and we have little room for human error. The reality of it is that we are all imperfect humans that get it wrong sometimes. That’s the beauty of growth, and growth without grace just causes pain.

Challenge:

When you make a mistake or miss a goal, practice responding with grace instead of guilt. Journal daily on “Where can I offer myself grace today?” or “Where can I release guilt from my past?”

Guided Reflection:

  • How can I show grace to myself in the places I feel behind?

  • What does it mean to accept God’s grace instead of earning His love?

  • Who around me needs a gentle word or gesture of grace this week?
